The Italian American Women's Association handed out three scholarships to women going off to college Monday evening. The organization has been handing out scholarships for the last 21 years. Recipients are all graduating seniors who excelled academically. In order to be eligible, they had to write essays describing what their Italian heritage means to them.
It's the first time the presentation is back in-person since before the pandemic, so the organization was excited to award scholarship funds to recipients face-to-face. "We were not able to do this at all last year because we were not able to gather in person," said Wendy Cancilla, president of the association. "It's wonderful now to all be back together to celebrate this tonight."
