The American-Italian Cancer Foundation has presented the 'Special Recognition Award' to Gabriella Pravettoni, director of the Division of Psychoncology at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) and professor of Decision Psychology at the University of Milan. For the first time, the prestigious award is given to a psychoncologist. The award ceremony was held in New York City.

The award was given to Pravettoni “for her important contribution in the development of psychoncology.” The American-Italian Cancer Foundation, established in 1980 in New York by Umberto Veronesi, aims to build a research bridge between Italy and the United States and improve tools in the challenge against cancer, including through financial support to young researchers.

“I am very honored to receive this 'award' from an Italian-American entity, which has Umberto Veronesi himself among its founders,” Pravettoni says. ”I grew up professionally at IEO, the hospital established by the professor. The recognition of the American-Italian Cancer Foundation seals the work that, with my team, we have done in recent years and 'completes' the bridge of research between Italy and the United States, adding the fundamental pillar of psychoncology.”
