The students from Garden City High School's Italian 4 Honors and the Italian College classes recently had the pleasure of welcoming Hofstra University Professor Stanislao Pugliese - author, editor, and organizer of conferences (many of which focus on Fascist Italy, the Resistance Movement, and Italian Americans), to their classroom. Professor Pugliese discussed an array of topics many students found fascinating, from the discrimination Italians faced in America to the serious divide between Northern and Southern Italy.

He touched upon the "Risorgimento," the unification of Italy, and the way in which Garibaldi's leadership brought the two opposing sides together. Professor Pugliese opened our minds to new information about Italy, Italians, and the Italian Americans. The attending students were most grateful for his visit!
