Charlie's calls itself "A New York Italian Joint," which isn't quite right. It's a good deal more affable, cheerful and neighborly than the dark and crammed madhouse restaurants I grew up going to in New York City.
By contrast, Charlie's Italian Joint in Redondo Beach is bright and spacious, with a groovy bar with a lot of big screens tuned to the games of the moment. The bartenders, in between chatting with the the regulars, are busy pouring some two dozen beers on tap, which the menu tells us are "listed in order of gravity."
