The first time we stepped beneath the red-white-and-green Italian flag and through the door of De Marco's New York Style Pizzeria, we received a warm welcome. In less time than it takes to say "benvenuto," we felt — I know it sounds sappy, but it was true — as though we were family.
De Marco's' décor exudes old-fashioned good cheer — red-checked tablecloths, a bar surrounded by lights, black and white photos of New York celebrities. There's a counter showcasing pizza by the slice and a selection of desserts. Behind the counter co-owner and chef Stephen De Marco Jr. is at work, shaping, pounding, slathering and thrusting the pizza pies into industrial strength ovens.
