It was only a matter of time before the man of many restaurants, Gary Romano, alighted in downtown Riverside.
Except for his namesake Italian joint in downtown Redlands, Romano's six other eating places are in Riverside: one in Mission Grove and the other five in Canyon Crest, although his pizza place, Canyon Crust, is temporarily closed for a redo and rebrand.
His newest creation is spectacular, the 13,000-square-foot Romano's Concert Lounge, which opened at 3557 University Ave. on Jan. 5. Romano bought the historic building this past year and has remodeled it from top to bottom. After the building debuted 127 years ago as a carriage repair shop and later morphed into a pawnshop, its most recent incarnation was DDogs restaurant, which closed in December 2015.
