The owners of Barbuzzo plan to open a homestyle Italian-American restaurant.
Little Nonna (1234 Locust St.) will be a casual Italian eatery, inspired by the "red sauce" family-owned places of Italian immigrants, said owners Chef Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran. It will have 37 seats.
"For our menu, I immersed myself in the strong family traditions of Italian-American cooking — asking friends and fellow cooks what was on their table growing up, then adding my own style," said Chef Turney.
A summer opening is planned.
Not far from the Little Nonna, in the city's Midtown Village neighborhood, Turney and Safran have made their mark since opening their first place in 2002.
They are behind Barbuzzo (110 S. 13th St.), a Mediterranean kitchen-and-bar; Jamonera (105 S. 13th St.), a Spanish tapas-and-wine bar; Lolita (106 S. 13th St.), a Mexican BYOB; and Grocery (101 S. 13th St.), a prepared-food market. They also have two lifestyle boutiques: Open House (107 S. 13th St.) and Verde (108 S. 13th St.).
