It was a hail Mary pass that paid off big time for the owners of D'Angelo Italian Market, who won the Super Bowl of catering gigs. No, really. "When we found out the Super Bowl was coming to New Jersey, we contacted the NFL Host Committee to find out how we could get involved," said Danielle D'Angelo, co-owner of the family business on Spring Street. "We thought it was kind of a long shot."
But now the borough shop is preparing to provide a game-day feast for 2,500 high-profile guests and celebrities at the invitation-only "VIP Tailgate" at the Meadowlands on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 2. Based in California, the NFL committee met with the D'Angelo family and five other restaurant owners from the New Jersey-New York area at the Meadowlands earlier this year to taste-test items on their menus.
