Samario's restaurant, specializing in pizza and cheesesteaks and serving many other items, opened Feb. 26 in downtown Honesdale. The family-owned business, with its flagship restaurant in Scranton and another restaurant in Tunkhannock, has been looking to come to Honesdale for several years. The Italian bistro is located at 627 Main St., the former location of Papa's Primo Pizza in the historic Katz building.
The business was started by Sam and Trish Parlopiano in 1993. The name "Samario" refers to their sons Sammy and Mario, said Sammy Parlopiano, who is the chef at the Honesdale location. He said they have been getting the new location ready for five or six months. They wanted to open a restaurant in Honesdale six or seven years ago, but it didn't work out at the time, he noted.
