Belgium-born chef Mathieu Palombino, whose Neapolitan-style pizza at Motorino has been called “the best of a new generation” by the New York Times, is set to open an Italian restaurant and pizzeria in Edgewater in the spot that had housed Izzy's Pizzeria.
Gigi & Mario, a 90-seat spot in City Place helmed by Palombino, whose Motorino pizzerias in Williamsburg, the Upper West Side and the East Village, were also lauded by Time Out New York as having "Best Artisan Pie" and New York Magazine for being the "Best New Pizza Joints," is scheduled to open Oct. 10. He also owns Motorino outposts in Hong Kong, Dubai and Malaysia.
