If you're searching for the best Italian restaurant in New Jersey, you need to head to Elizabeth. Spirito's is the king of Italian cuisine in the Garden State, at least according to national food website The Daily Meal. The praise for the Elizabeth institution came Thursday morning, when the website published "The Best Italian Restaurant in Every State."
The website praises not one but three legendary meals at Spirito's: the homemade ravioli, the veal parm and of course the pizza. Described as an "old-school wonder" by NJ Advance Media's own food guru Pete Genovese, Spirito's seems to have stayed stuck in 1932, the year it was opened. Our dear Genovese has even went so far as to recommend Spirito's to people attending the Super Bowl in 2014.
