With Tuesday's opening of the new grocery store at 75th Street and Naper Boulevard, Naperville finally has its first Mariano's, located on the site of one of the city's three Dominick's stores shuttered in 2013.

Not only does Mariano's arrival restore the presence of a major retailer at a high-traffic Naperville intersection, it also lends occasion to recalibrate our thinking on how and where we shop, and for what. If we've learned anything as consumers, it's that we have a duty to ensure we help keep all businesses thriving, dividing our hard-earned dollars as best we can among as many merchants as possible.
