On the corner of Third and McClellan streets in downtown Wausau, behind a red telephone booth like the ones found in a British film, lies La Prima Deli. With its signature blood orange brick walls and basil green awnings, the River District-based restaurant has been a local mainstay since its inception in September 2000.
The deli, which first opened in a Fulton Street limited-space facility on Wausau’s eastside, later relocated to its current location to accommodate a product line and loyal customer base for catering events and other needs. For 21 years, the deli’s staff — donning dark-colored aprons or tonal T-shirts adorned with La Prima’s logo — have served up sandwiches, coffee, croissants and layered bars to locals and travelers alike.
