A beloved Chicago fast-food chain is honoring the new pope with a Chicago staple. Portillo’s introduced on social media Friday “The Leo” Italian Beef sandwich. “In the name of the gravy, the bun, and hot giard – we introduce The Leo: divinely seasoned Italian Beef, baptized in gravy,” the restaurant’s post reads.
Portillo’s says this “heavenly” creation is available for the month of May, which is also Italian Beef Month. On Thursday, Robert Francis Prevost, born in Chicago and raised in South Holland, was selected as the 267th pope. He will be known as Pope Leo XIV and becomes the first pope from the United States in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church.
