A wine bar known for private-label wine, charcuterie and cold seafood is coming to the Biltmore Village area. Virgola wine bar started its life in a 6-foot-wide New York City alleyway. The dimly lit diminutive space inspired Zagat to call the setup "charming," while Serious Eats said Virgola "is the kind of wine bar you selfishly don't want to tell others about."
The word's apparently gotten out, as Virgola founder Joseph Marazzo has turned his intimate wine and oyster bar into a franchise concept. There are five locations, including the one slated to open in Biltmore Station at 2 Hendersonville Road. Marazzo just signed on a half-dozen more, and thinks he'll have about 20 venues either open or in the works by the end of the year.
