“Call Me By Your Name” won the big prize, Best Picture, at the 27th annual Gotham Independent Film Awards on Monday night. Luca Guadagnino‘s coming-of-age tale also won Breakthrough Performance for newcomer Timothee Chalamet. These awards bestowed by the Gotham Filmmaker Project were handed out in a star-filled ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street. (See the full list of Gotham Awards winners.)
This Best Picture win bolsters the position of “Call Me By Your Name” as an Oscar frontrunner. For the last three years running, the top winner at these kudos has gone on to claim Best Picture at the Oscars (“Moonlight,” 2016; “Spotlight,” 2015; “Birdman,” 2014).
