All pastas are not created equal

A few years ago I ordered spaghetti and meatballs at a then-new Frederick Italian restaurant as a test of its basic Italian cooking. I was served linguine and meatballs. On inquiry, the server told me they had run out of spaghetti.

As reprehensible as this was for an Italian restaurant, I accepted the explanation, if not the linguine, since the restaurant was newly opened. A week later I ordered a spaghetti dish and was again served linguine, giving the lie to the waiter of my previous visit and to the restaurant's menu on which, for all dishes on which spaghetti is listed, linguine is served.
