What do Bill Gates, Naomi Campbell, Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and Benedict XVI have in common? They all own at least one writing instrument made by Italy's Aurora. The company has been producing high-end fountain pens (some customized models can cost well into six figures), ballpoints, roller ball pens and mechanical pencils since 1919, from its hometown of Turin.
Now the fourth-generation family business is embarking on an globalization campaign that aims to secure the firm's future as well as expand its product range to include accessories such as branded leather goods, paper products and watches. Earlier this year, Aurora - which retails through multi-brand shops in Italy and abroad, including in the US, the Emirates, China and Hong Kong - opened its first mono-brand boutique in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
