An historic day for Italian canoeing. After twenty years without a gold medal, on the same day two gold medals were won at the World Championships in Copenhagen: in the sprint that in the past belonged to Oreste Perri, Daniele Scarpa, Antonio Rossi and Josefa Idem, they were Andrea Domenico Di Liberto in K1 200 and Daniele Santini and Nicolae Craciun in C2 500. To complete the Sunday of glory, the bronze in C1 500 with Carlo Tacchini.
The last person to climb the highest step of the podium was Josefa Idem in 2001. Closing the long fast in Denmark was the victory of Andrea Domenico Di Liberto from Palermo. A few minutes later came the second gold in the C2 500 meters. Daniele Santini and Nicolae Craciun, like Di Liberto who did not qualify for Tokyo 2020, took back a nice revenge by managing the race perfectly, even increasing their strokes in the final and finishing three tenths faster than Hungary and Russia.
