When we think of Pisa, we think of its leaning tower, but there is much more in town to enjoy, starting with the famous Luminara di San Ranieri, one of the most charming and visually striking traditions in Italy, celebrated every year on the evening of June 16th.
Held in honor of San Ranieri, the city’s patron saint, the event transforms the historic centre into a glowing spectacle of light and reflection, which attracts thousands of visitors and locals, eager to witness a night where architecture, tradition, and devotion merge breathtakingly. San Ranieri, a 12th-century Pisan hermit who renounced wealth to live a life of pilgrimage and humility, has always been revered by the people of Pisa for his piety and charity.
