Chamois: the Italian town without cars

In Italy, there is a small town where no car has ever arrived. Chamois, perched at 1815 meters in the Aosta Valley, is the only Italian town accessible exclusively by cable car or on foot. No paved roads, no honking, no parking. Just think for a moment: how do you do the shopping? How do you take a child to school? How does an ambulance get there in case of emergency?

Life here follows a different rhythm. The inhabitants move on foot, with small electric vehicles, or sledges in winter. The cable car from Buisson is the lifeline that connects this village to the rest of the world. But the most surprising thing? The residents have repeatedly voted AGAINST the construction of an access road. They have deliberately chosen to preserve this uniqueness, turning what might seem like a limitation into an invaluable asset.

In a world that is increasingly fast and noisy, Chamois remains faithful to its rhythm, that of footsteps and seasons.
