DOP Tourism (Denominazione di Origine Protetta) is emerging as a dynamic and sustainable model of tourism in Italy, centered around the country’s rich heritage of DOP and IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta) certified products. Promoted by 361 consortia and involving 597 certified goods, this form of tourism blends agriculture, culture, and hospitality, creating authentic experiences rooted in local traditions and landscapes.
According to the first-ever DOP Tourism Report, 585 related activities are currently active across Italy. These include 235 temporary events like winery tastings, cheese factory tours, cultural festivals, and sporting events connected to DOP and IGP production areas. Events are the most dynamic sector of this tourism, engaging a wide variety of visitors. Alongside these are 188 permanent infrastructures such as regional Wine and Taste Routes, food museums, educational centers, and cultural hubs—spaces that anchor these experiences in place and time.mic future.
