17-year-old tennis player Tyra Caterina Grant has decided to play for Italy rather than the United States, as she had been doing up until now. Grant was highly sought after by both federations because she is considered one of the most promising players of her generation and has achieved excellent results at the junior level.
However, she has only played a few matches in professional tournaments, so it is still difficult to gauge her true potential. Grant will represent Italy for the first time during the Italian Open in Rome. Tyra Grant was born in Rome in 2008 and holds dual U.S. and Italian citizenship.
She is the daughter of former U.S. basketball player Tyrone Grant, who played in Italy for several years, and Cinzia Giovinco, who was also her first coach. From 2016 to 2023, Grant trained at the Piatti Tennis Center in Bordighera, the same academy where Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner trained for years. Sinner has been ranked number one in the ATP men's singles rankings for almost a year.
In 2023, Grant moved to Florida in the United States, where she gained increasing attention from those following youth tennis. Representing the United States, Grant won three Junior Slam doubles titles in the past two years, competing in the most prestigious tournaments for young players.
