E-commerce surpasses the €16.5 bn mark, as more Italians add goods to their baskets

B2C e-commerce turnover in Italy has surpassed the €16.5 billion threshold and, in the virtual shopping carts of Italians, there's a growing number goods. This year goods totaled €6.7 billion (+21% over 2014) in purchases, while services were close to €9.9 billion (+12%) and worth 60% of the market. +

Overall, the B2C sales amounted to €16.6 billion with an increase of over 16%, and a penetration of 4% on total sales. According to data emerging from the 13th edition of the B2C E-commerce Observatory put forward by Milan's Polytechnic and Netcomm, the leading sectors are tourism (+14% over 2014), hi-tech (+21%), clothing (+19%) - driven by heavyweights, such as Yoox or Zalando - to finish with the publishing industry (+31%, equal to an increase of €140 million), especially thanks to the purchase of books.
