A major breakthrough in diagnosing ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) early has emerged from a collaborative study between Italian and American researchers - a true example of Italy-U.S. synergy in medical innovation. The research, led by neurologists at the Città della Salute e della Scienza in Turin, working alongside experts from the U.S. National Institutes of Health, marks a significant advancement in detecting this devastating neurodegenerative disease.

Using cutting-edge proteomic technology the team measured over 3,000 proteins in blood samples with unprecedented precision. From an initial group of 183 ALS patients and 309 healthy individuals, they identified 33 proteins whose levels were consistently altered in those with ALS. This finding was then reproduced in a completely independent cohort – reinforcing the reliability of the results.
