Falanghina: A Vibrant Italian White Wine Takes Center Stage

Falanghina is one of the most delicious white wines of Italy, or anywhere for that matter, but until recently, it wasn’t greatly appreciated. Today, thanks to renewed work in the vineyards - and to some extent the cellars - Falanghina has gained a new popularity, first and foremost as an appealing white wine that is enjoyable upon release, but with the best examples, even better with a few additional years aging.

Falanghina is at home in the region of Campania in southwestern Italy. While Campania is famous for a number of attractions, such as the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii and Napoli (and its marvelous pizzas), its wines have not achieved the same popularity, though this is changing. There are five provinces in the region, and wine is produced in each one; the location of the vineyards range from coastal to inland, and most vines are planted in hillsides.
