The World Fencing Championships in Cairo ended with a stunning gold medal for Italy in men's foil. The United States, who were reigning world champions, were defeated 45-39 in the very final by the Italian national team represented on the piste by Tommaso Marini, Alessio Foconi and Daniele Garozzo. Italy's men's foil takes the title of world champion.
In the last competition of the rainbow championships in Cairo, the Italian national team, already fresh reigning European champions for the past month, imitates the women and beats the United States in the final for the gold medal. Our representative team thus returns to the top step of the podium in men's team foil after four years since the last time. This is the 18th achievement in this specialty.
The MVP of the final was undoubtedly Tommaso Marini, whose positive/negative hit balance is even +9. A true champion, who also dragged Daniele Garozzo and Alessio Foconi, who, although not at their peak as in their best days, remain two undisputed champions. Total domination from the very first bars, with the defending world champions Americans always chasing and almost never in contact with the Azzurri. In the final medal table, Italy therefore finishes third with 8 medals: 2 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronzes. It is already a definite step forward from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, when no successes came.
