The prestigious Emmy Award assigned in the United States by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, equivalent to an Oscar for television journalism, was given to Filippo Ferretti, anchor man for Univisiòn, who currently lives and works in New York but is from Florence.

Filippo Ferretti was awarded the Emmy Award for having conducted a journalistic investigation that unmasked a scam against migrants perpetrated by a religious pastor who was paid for false documents after having gained people's trust through faith. Thanks to his investigation, which lasted over 2 years, American investigators were able to put together the pieces of the puzzle of the scam and the religious pastor in April 2021 was sentenced to 22 years in prison.

"In October I got an email saying 'congratulations you've been nominated' - Ferretti says -, I reread it several times before believing it and it arrived the evening I moved from Florida to New York. I thought about destiny and the fact that it had given me the best way to start my new work experience in the Big Apple. Then three months went by and, because of covid, the ceremony could not be held in attendance, I had to follow it from home on YouTube and when they said my name it was an indescribable emotion. I won this award as a Florentine, the heart and determination behind the work that allowed me to be awarded are Florentine. Even if life takes you far away, you will always remain a Florentine; I live in America, I became an American citizen but in reality I am and will always be from Florence."

"In Florence and in Tuscany I had many journalistic collaborations but no salary - Ferretti briefly tells his incredible story - in order to cultivate my passion I worked as a hotel porter and then sold shoes in a store in the center. When I was 33 years old, I decided to make a change and move to the United States. After not even 9 years, that American dream that I had only seen on television came true; here I had the opportunity to transform my passion into a profession, an opportunity that my country had never given me.
