Filippo Scotti was at the airport, ready to fly from Italy to New York to Los Angeles to Telluride, when he realized he had forgotten his passport. The 21-year-old Italian actor had just attended the Venice Film Festival world premiere of The Hand of God, Paolo Sorrentino’s semi-autobiographical tale in which Scotti stars.
So maybe he was distracted by the magic of being at a black-tie gala at one of the world’s most glamorous film festivals. Or maybe it was winning the Venice Film Festival’s Marcello Mastroianni Award for best new young actor, an honor that’s previously been bestowed on Diego Luna and Jennifer Lawrence. Or maybe there was a much simpler reason, as Scotti puts it: “I’m just dumb. That’s the truth.”
