The financial wealth of Italian households continued to grow in 2024, surpassing for the first time the €6 trillion mark in savings — a historic milestone. The total amount held in financial instruments — including checking accounts, securities, stocks, mutual funds, and insurance policies — increased by over €249 billion compared to 2023, representing a 4.3% rise. Compared to the pre-pandemic period (2019), the overall amount in household savings has grown by €1.367 trillion, or 29.3%.
The most notable increase was seen in mutual funds, which jumped by 17.6% in 2024 compared to the previous year, rising from €722 billion to nearly €850 billion. This, the report explains, is a clear sign of growing interest in more dynamic and diversified products, driven by still-attractive returns and a greater risk appetite among savers.
