In the new episode of Italian Innovators I present to you the story of GIULIA FALLETTI di BAROLO (1785-1864), the woman and entrepreneur who spearheaded the experimental development of the Nebbiolo grape into the world-renowned Barolo red wine. After marrying the Marquis Carlo Tancredi Falletti, the French-born Juliette Colbert (later Giulia Falletti) moved from Paris to Turin, where she lived a life of service, caring for the poor and bettering the conditions of prisoners in the city jails.

After her husband’s death, she honored his memory by improving the cultivation of the vineyards surrounding their countryside castle in the Langhe village of Barolo. The wine is the mirror of her complex personality as a woman of faith, service, and entrepreneurship. You can enjoy the new episode here
