A "Global Community of Italophony" to promote political dialogue, international cooperation, exchanges, and connections between civil societies, as well as cultural, economic, scientific, and academic relations among its members: this is the goal outlined at the fifth edition of the General States of the Italian Language in the World, which took place in Rome.
"Italian is a beloved language, and it should also be a tool to make our country count more," emphasized Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, announcing his intention to convene "a summit of Italophony." Italian, spoken by 80 million people worldwide and an official language in several countries, "is an extraordinary bridge," said Tajani, "a language of peace and dialogue, and I think about the recognized role of our military in foreign missions."
