Procida is still, in many ways, a well guarded secret. Contrarily to its more famous sisters, Capri and Ischia, Procida — that, when it comes to beauty, has nothing to envy to either of them, — remains a traditional, fishermen enclave at heart: mass tourism is unknown in this little corner of Campania.
Mind, its charms are known and they have been throughout the centuries, as our literary history demonstrates. Generation after generation of artists found inspiration in the colorful houses and crystal waters of Procida: from the ancient Roman lyrics of Juvenal, Statius and mighty Virgil, to the at once flirtatious and regal aplomb of Boccaccio, all the way to Romantic icon Alphonse de Lamartine and contemporary novelist Elsa Morante.
