It has always been called the Villa of the Four Winds: it is a Roman building with sloping terraces, just a few steps from the center of San Felice Circeo, in the province of Latina, overlooking the sea.
It is a wonderful, truly stunning place, which is said to have hosted the triumvir Lepidus during his exile. Sloping terraces, however, were typical of many Hellenistic sanctuaries, which abound in the Lazio region surrounding Rome. They were either built or restored between the late 2nd century and the early 1st century BC, such as the shrines of Palestrina or Terracina, to name the most famous ones.
