To really understand Italian fashion, we must go back to the 14th century. During the Renaissance period the textile industry in Italy flourished. However, industrial advances in the 15th century pushed France and England to the forefront of the cloth and textile industry.  Thus, Italian production remained small, handmade and woven using only the natural raw materials available.
