Angela Missoni, president of Missoni and its creative director from 1997 until last May, did not see the Italian label’s Spring 2022 collection until she went backstage before the runway show last week. In 2018, the Missoni family sold a 41 per cent stake to private equity investors — and this year the non-family management asked her to step aside from design.
In her place, Livio Proli, who became CEO in May 2020, appointed Alberto Caliri, who worked with Angela Missoni for 12 years, as interim creative director. He also replaced Margherita Maccapani Missoni, Angela’s daughter, as designer of the house’s lower priced M Missoni line. The instincts of new management, Angela Missoni says, must be followed for the good of the company.
