Italian industry limps on but maintains its manufacturing and export rankings, Confindustria says

The global scenario is increasingly complex, with a slowdown in growth of emerging nations, a consolation of China's primacy, and a pickup in industrial activity in advanced nations, mostly the US and Germany.


International trade is growing at a much slower rate that in the past, less than global GDP. In this context, Italy "is still lagging" but is managing to defend its second-place position in terms of manfucturing value added in Europe, and ranks seventh in the world (it was eighth, but passed Brazil), with an added value 2.3%—half of what it was in the pre-crisis period (4% in 2007) and one-third of that of fourth-place Germany's 6.1%.
