Italy’s demand for electricity in the first five months of 2025 reached 125 billion kWh, representing a decline of 1.1% compared with the same period last year. May in particular confirmed the trend, with electricity demand amounting to 24.2 billion kWh—a 2.7% decrease year‑on‑year.
However, once adjusted for working days and average temperature, the decrease moderates to 1.8%, as May 2025 had one fewer working day and was 0.6 °C cooler than May 2024. This reduction in consumption is consistent across the country: the North saw a 3.1% decline, the Centre 3.0%, and the South and islands 1.6%.
