Italy and the United States are "sister nations." Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reaffirmed this message at Villa Taverna in Rome during the celebration of America’s Independence Day. “President Donald Trump and I have always emphasized the extraordinary and unique bond between our two countries. It's a foundation we can build on to make this connection even stronger,” Meloni said, highlighting the deep-rooted alliance between Rome and Washington.

“Italy and the U.S. often speak the same language on many key issues, and that benefits not only our bilateral ties but also strengthens the unity and resilience of the Western world,” the Prime Minister added during her speech at the event hosted by the U.S. Embassy.

Meloni stressed that Western solidarity is essential in facing today’s global challenges. “That unity remains critical—even more so—when our perspectives don't fully align. Because at the core, we are historic allies bound by loyalty, mutual respect, and a shared belief that one nation's strength reinforces the other’s.”

She also extended her gratitude to Ambassador Jack Markell Fertitta, saying, “Thank you for your warm welcome and for the exceptional partnership. Together, we can do great things for both our countries.”

Meloni reflected on the meaning of the Fourth of July, noting, “I’ve always admired the way Americans celebrate this day. It’s more than just a national holiday—it’s something deeply felt by every American citizen.” She described it as a celebration of democracy, equality, and freedom. “It’s a powerful expression of national pride—a true declaration of love for the country.”

In closing, she emphasized the enduring strength of Italian-American relations: “I want to reaffirm how solid and meaningful the bond is between Italy and the United States. It’s a special relationship that grows stronger every day, thanks in large part to the 20 million Italian Americans who serve as a living bridge between our two nations.”
