Today, September 22, with the autumnal equinox, the most beautiful summer ever for Italian sport comes to an end. And yet the Italian colors continue to give emotions and triumphs, everywhere and in every discipline. Even at the World Bocce Championships, held in Martingues, France, Italy was a protagonist.
For the Azzurri, the world tournament of the Volo specialty, the one that is practiced with large and metal bocce and that has been proposed as a possible new discipline for the 2024 Olympics, closes with a very rich score: two gold, four silver and two bronze medals, for a total of eight podiums.
The World Champions were Alex Zoia and Ivan Soligon in the Under 23 Pair and Gabriele Graziano in the Under 23 Precision Shooting. The Italian duo won 8-6 over the French hosts Romain Garnier and Nicolas Peyron-Gerard, while Graziano beat the Croatian Gaspar 11-8. Silver for Simone Mana and Matteo Bardella in the Under 18 Couple and for Stefano Aliverti in the Under 23 Progressive Throw. Both categories saw the triumph of the Slovenians. Second most prestigious medal also for Serena Traversa and Emanuele Ferrero in the Mixed Relay, and for Matteo Golfetto and Mattia Falconieri in the Under 18 Precision Shooting. Both couples were beaten in the final by the French. Bronze medals for Stefano Pegoraro in the Senior Progressive Shooting and for Mattia Falconieri in the Under 18 Individual.
