Italy's cultural ministry has announced that the country will spend around $322 million on cultural projects over the next three years, according to the New York Times' Elisabetta Povoledo. 241 projects in total will be supported by the funds, including a restoration of monuments such as Nero's Golden Palace in Rome.
About one million dollars will be devoted to maintaining Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper fresco in Milan. Meanwhile, approximately fifty-seven million dollars has been set aside specifically to improve the security of various museums. (Just two months ago, masked robbers broke into the Castelvecchio, one of Verona's most visited museums, and stole seventeen paintings, as artforum.com previously reported here.)
