The Valle d'Aosta is located in the mountains in north-western Italy, on the border with France to the west and French-speaking Switzerland to the north. To the south and east, the valley borders the Italian region of Piedmont.
The official languages are Italian and French. Except for the capital of the region Aosta/Aoste, all municipalities have French names.
