Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a sweeping reform that will revamp its structure, priorities, and daily operations. The goal is to turn the ministry - historically rooted in diplomatic traditions - into a modern, streamlined, and outward-facing institution. This shift is particularly important for the millions of Italians living abroad, who stand to benefit from more efficient services and greater cultural and educational support.
Starting January 1, 2026, the ministry will adopt a new “two-headed” leadership model with one arm focused on politics and diplomacy, and the other on economic growth and promotion of Italian businesses worldwide. New divisions included: General Directorate for Growth, General Directorate for Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence, Internal Simplification Unit, General Directorate for Services to Citizens Abroad and Migration Policies.
