While Italy’s tennis champions continue to dominate on the global stage, there’s another sport closely related to tennis that’s experiencing explosive growth within the country: padel.

As Rome hosts the Italy Major—one of the four most important tournaments in the world—the International Padel Federation’s research center has released a striking statistic: Italy has now surpassed 10,000 padel courts nationwide. To be exact, there are 10,017 courts, 45% of which are indoor, spread across 3,716 clubs throughout the country. Italy is now the second-ranked country in the world for number of facilities and players, just behind Spain.
