Italy reached 30.28 GW of cumulative installed solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity after bringing online 5.23 GW of new plants in the past year, according to the latest data by trade body Italia Solare. The country ended 2023 with 1.59 million solar plants in operation, of which 50% are systems in the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector and 22% are utility-scale parks.
Residential installations account for 28% of the total, equal to plants with a combined capacity of 8.56 GW. Italy’s solar industry enjoyed a considerable expansion in the yearly deployments as compared to the 2.48 GW commissioned in 2022, with the growth coming mostly thanks to the national Superbonus support scheme and the rising energy prices.
