Italy is one of the world’s most beloved countries. Everyone knows or wants to visit Rome, Florence, Tuscany, Venice, Milan, and the Amalfi Coast. And with so many visitors, some Italian cities, like Venice, are taking measures to control tourism. But rather than mount one of the unfortunate “Tourist Go Home” campaigns racking countries from Spain to the Maldives, Italy wants to redirect some of its travel traffic to Umbria, known as the Green Heart of Italy.
To visit Umbria is also as an opportunity to experience Italy of yesteryear. Umbria is centrally located, a short ride from either Rome or Florence. In Umbria, there are opportunities to explore and experience Italy at its best, without the incredible crowds. And, in Umbria, one can stroll the streets of Perugia, its capital, safely where seemingly every restaurant provides a culinary experience with food and wine sourced from the region.
