The tenth edition of the Green Road Award – the “Oscar of Cycle Tourism” – has been awarded to the region of Liguria for the Cycling Riviera bike and pedestrian path. Second place went to Basilicata for the Ciclovia Meridiana, and third place to Puglia for the Ciclonica. The three bike routes were selected from nearly 30 applications submitted by various Italian regions and autonomous provinces.
The Cycling Riviera is a 33-kilometer bike and pedestrian path stretching from Ospedaletti to Imperia, built by repurposing a section of the old coastal Genova–Ventimiglia railway. The first segment of the Cycling Riviera – also known as the Riviera dei Fiori Coastal Park Bikeway – was inaugurated in 2009, linking Sanremo to San Lorenzo.
