Mielerie aperte: exploring italy’s local treasures through honey

Italy is well known for producing outstanding products like wine, olive oil, cheese, and cured meats: but those aren't the only local treasures we're champions of. Today, Sunday, May 18, the event “Mielerie Aperte” will see 190 beekeeping businesses across the country - driven by passion and expertise - open their doors to the public, offering immersive, hands-on experiences and reliable, shared information about Italian honey.

There are over 50 recognized varieties of honey in Italy, thanks to one of the richest botanical biodiversities in Europe. But it’s not just about flavor—local honeys represent a form of agricultural and cultural expression, deeply rooted in landscapes, practices, and relationships. The connection between bees, honey, and biodiversity is becoming increasingly central to agriculture.
