In 2026, the United Nations will celebrate the “International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development,” recognizing the crucial role volunteer efforts play in building a more just, inclusive, and environmentally responsible world. That same year, Modena will take the spotlight as Italy’s Capital of Volunteering, succeeding Palermo.
This honor offers Modena a powerful platform to showcase the work of its vibrant nonprofit sector, particularly in advancing sustainability in all its forms—social, environmental, and economic. Modena and its province are home to over 1,700 volunteer associations. These organizations are deeply rooted in the community and play an essential role in promoting a culture of solidarity.
