Some €10.6 billion to invest over seven years. That's about how much Italy tentatively plans to unleash between 2014 and 2020 to get its so-called Digital Agenda up to speed. The government will disburse the fresh cash in tranches of €1.5 billion a year, most of which will be covered by European Union funds.
There are a few things that need to be worked out before, however, including the accumulated delays in certain regional spending policies, the need to reconcile digital investments with other thematic goals, and fierce competition for use of available resources.
